"I AM AN ALLY" CAMPAIGN at East West Center for Counselling and training

"I AM AN ALLY" campaign

"I AM AN ALLY" campaign conducted by East West Center for Counselling and training in collaboration with Nirangal for Chennai Counsellor's Foundation on the 31st of August 2019. Many mental health professionals and guests from the LGBTQ community participated and shared their personal experiences and opinions. There was a screening of a documentary film "Ladies and Gentlewomen " directed by Malini Jeevarathnam (also a community member) which created a very different view and opinion on the community . Discussions on how and why the role of Mental health professionals are important were clarified and further widening of perspectives on the needs of the community individuals were said.
On the whole the session was very interactive interesting and an informative one.

Advanced practices in Palliative care - Expressive Arts Therapy session

Cancare Foundation and Wabisabi Health conducted a workshop on Advanced practices in Palliative care. 

The workshop took place on 17th August, 2019, at Voluntary Health Services, Chennai. 







The workshop had a series of sessions on Music therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Critical Care, Psycho-oncology, Physical activity, Mindfulness and Surgeries. The Expressive Arts Therapy session was conducted by Magdalene Jeyarathnam, Director of East West Center for Counselling and Training, and Indian Institute of Psychodrama. She used inspirational fairy tales and role play techniques to introduce Expressive Arts Therapy to the audience. The session also included Palliative care nurses, who were a part of group therapy sessions, to share their experience with Expressive arts for self care and opening new horizons in using such techniques with patients themselves. This was followed by the counsellors, of East West Center for Counselling and Training, who shared their experience of using Expressive arts with their clients in schools and corporate settings, for the audience to know more and process the use of such innovative and evolving techniques in their intervention process with their clients. The session was found to be useful and the audience included Palliative care nurses, surgeons, physicians, music therapists, diabeticians, psychologists and students.

FELICITATION PROGRAM OF PG DIPLOMA IN EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPY (Batch 7)
AND A SERIES OF EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOPS
July 12th, Women's Christian College

The Batch 7 students of Diploma in Expressive Arts Therapy were felicitated for receiving their diplomas in the ceremony that took place on the 12th of July, 2019 at Women's Christian College, Chennai. The awarding ceremony was honored by the Principal of WCC, Dr. Lilian Jasper and Dr. Kalpana, President of Chennai Counselors’ Foundation. 




The day consisted of a series of Expressive Arts Therapy workshops and presentations facilitated by the students. The sessions were chaired by chief guests Dr. Vasuki, Mrs. Mina Dilip and Dr. Eric Miller. It was a wonderful day of action and connection!
