Cancare Foundation and Wabisabi Health conducted a workshop on Advanced practices in Palliative care.
The workshop took place on 17th August, 2019, at Voluntary Health Services, Chennai.
The workshop had a series of sessions on Music therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, Critical Care, Psycho-oncology, Physical activity, Mindfulness and Surgeries. The Expressive Arts Therapy session was conducted by Magdalene Jeyarathnam, Director of East West Center for Counselling and Training, and Indian Institute of Psychodrama. She used inspirational fairy tales and role play techniques to introduce Expressive Arts Therapy to the audience. The session also included Palliative care nurses, who were a part of group therapy sessions, to share their experience with Expressive arts for self care and opening new horizons in using such techniques with patients themselves. This was followed by the counsellors, of East West Center for Counselling and Training, who shared their experience of using Expressive arts with their clients in schools and corporate settings, for the audience to know more and process the use of such innovative and evolving techniques in their intervention process with their clients. The session was found to be useful and the audience included Palliative care nurses, surgeons, physicians, music therapists, diabeticians, psychologists and students.
