Batch Five - “Diploma Course in Expressive Arts Therapy”

Module One – Nov 30 to December 11, 2015
Module Two – Feb 15 to 26, 2016
Module Three – April 4 to 15, 2016 

Components we cover in this course are 


Psychodrama
Therapeutic uses of Storytelling
Dance Movement Therapy
Visual Art
Expressive Arts Therapy
Counselling and Ethics


The diploma will be issued only on completion of:

1.             100% Attendance
2.             Trainer's evaluation
3.             Assignments
4.             Final Project
5.             Written Exam (one)
6.             40 hours of personal (individual) therapy sessions
7.             Six Supervision sessions over Skype compulsory from June 2016 to
        November 2016

*****This Expressive Arts Therapy Diploma Program is the only academic based program offered in India****



In addition to the Diploma, students will also receive certificates from the World Storytelling Institute, Dance Movement Psychotherapy Institute and Psychodrama Institute upon completion of this program.

Class timing - 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM

Who should attend this training?


This is an intensive program for those in the helping profession - (open to men and women) Therapists, HR (psychology), Social Workers, Counsellors, Psychologists, Special educators, NGO workers and those who are working with children will benefit from this course.

How is this training delivered?

The training is divided into 3 modules lasting 10 days each and takes place entirely in Chennai. At the completion of each module participants will have to complete projects and assignments of 15 hours. Each participant apart from the class hours will complete 200 hours of project work/ assignments.

2-Day Workshop on the Introduction to Expressive Arts Therapy - Bangalore on March 14th and 15th

East West Center for Counselling & Training

has concluded a 2-Day Introduction to Expressive Arts Therapy Workshop in Bangalore, at Sparsh Foundation, Cox Town on March 14th and 15th. 

The 2-Day experiential workshop explored the combinations of Music Therapy, Art Therapy, Psychodrama, Storytelling and Dance Movement Therapy.

Expressive arts therapy is a gentle, non-judgmental approach enabling the client to become aware of what is happening in his/her unconscious.

About the Trainer:

Dr. Karen Estrella is the Expressive Arts Therapy Program Coordinator in the Expressive Therapies Division at Lesley University, Boston, U.S.A. As a Music Therapist and Art Therapist, Dr. Estrella’s work has focused on developing an integrated arts approach to counselling and psychotherapy, and she has spent much of the past 15 years focused on developing competencies and integrating theory in Expressive Arts Therapy. In addition, Dr. Estrella is pursuing licensure as a Clinical Psychologist and practicing community based mental health counselling.

Information about the workshops 

Historically, the expressive arts have been part of ancient healing practices and a bridge between our worlds both inwardly and communally. In this workshop, participants will use the expressive therapies to explore the world of the parts of the Self.  How we relate to ourselves, our family and our community depends on the health of our relationship to the inner and outer Self.  While learning some history, theory and use of Expressive Arts, including visual art, journaling, movement and theatre, they will also develop tools for managing stress, healing and empowering themselves.

Profile of Jennie Kristel:


Jennie Kristel, MA, CET, RMT is a Certified Expressive Therapist in private practice, Reiki Master and is trained in Playback theatre and other forms of improvisation theatre and personal story telling. She has been collaborating with the East/West Centre for Counseling offering workshops and trainings in using the Expressive arts since 2009. She teaches using expressive arts, theatre games, and improvisation as a way to support people in understanding their deeper stories, resolve conflict and help build community. She co-edited, “Using Art Therapy in Diverse Populations: Crossing Cultures and Abilities” published in 2013.
